About Us
Learn About Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between a client and a trained mental health professional. It is designed to help individuals, couples, and families understand themselves more deeply, process difficult experiences, and build the skills that change how a family relates to one another.
Unlike medication, which addresses symptoms, psychotherapy works at the root. It explores the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that shape how we think, feel, and parent. Many of those patterns were handed to us before we had any say in them. In therapy, they can be examined, understood, and changed.
This is the work behind our belief that strong families are built, not born. Care at Transforming Minds is provided by clinicians in training who work under the close supervision of licensed professionals. That model is part of our purpose. It keeps care affordable for families who need it, and it prepares the next generation of bilingual clinicians to serve our community. Whatever brought you here, we are here to help you reconnect with yourself and give your children something different than what you were given.
Our mission
To prevent child abuse through education, and to give every parent the power to raise their children with warmth, confidence, and steady love.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it's normal to have questions. Here's what the first steps usually look like.
Your first call or contact. Someone from our team will ask a few basic questions to understand what you're looking for and make sure we're the right fit. You can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with.
A few routine questions. We ask every person the same set of questions, including some about safety, your current location, and an emergency contact. Please don't read anything into them. We ask everyone, and it helps us support you well and reach you if we ever need to, especially with telehealth.
Paperwork. Before your first session, you'll receive a few forms to complete. They cover basic demographic information, safety, and how we work together, including privacy and what you can expect from therapy. Take your time with them, and let us know if anything is unclear or you'd like help filling them out.
Your first session. Your Psychotherapist will get to know you, hear what brought you in, and talk about what you'd like to change. There's no pressure to tell your whole story right away. You set the pace.
Your questions are welcome. If a question feels too personal, or you'd like to know why we're asking it, just say so. We're happy to explain.

Many of our clients meet with us online, and it can work just as well as in person.
What you'll need. A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a reliable internet connection. We'll send you a secure link before your session.
Choose a private space. Find a quiet spot where you feel comfortable talking. Headphones can help with privacy. If you're in a car, please make sure you're parked and not driving.
Your location matters. At the start of each session, we'll confirm where you are. This is a standard part of telehealth, so we know how to reach help if there's ever an emergency.
If the connection drops. We'll have a backup plan, usually a phone call, and we'll go over it with you in your first session.
Your privacy. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. ~~We ask that you don't record sessions, so that everyone's privacy is protected. (~~please remove this from also the family legacy website)
Not sure telehealth is right for you? Tell us. We can talk through your options.
