Transforming Minds Project is a Stockton nonprofit preventing child abuse and neglect through evidence-based family intervention. We provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, grief and loss support, and parent education to San Joaquin County families, delivered by certified and supervised clinicians in a purpose-built training clinic.
For Partners and Referring Providers
Transforming Minds Project is a Stockton-based nonprofit working to prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening the relationship at the center of every family: the one between caregiver and child.
We deliver Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, an intervention rated Well-Supported by Research Evidence by the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse and recognized by both the CDC and SAMHSA among the most effective treatments for disruptive behavior in children ages 2 to 7. Sessions use live bug-in-the-ear coaching from behind a one-way mirror, so caregivers build skills in real time rather than recalling advice after the fact. Treatment progression is governed by direct observational coding, and outcomes are measured throughout.
Alongside PCIT, we offer grief and loss support for families and parent education across developmental stages. Bereavement is an underrecognized driver of family instability: grieving caregivers experience elevated rates of depression, substance use, and diminished parenting capacity at precisely the moment a grieving child needs more from them. Addressing loss early is prevention work.
Services are delivered by certified PCIT therapists and by supervised clinicians in training, under the direction of an in-house PCIT trainer and a licensed clinical supervisor. Clinical staff complete over 30 hrs of PCIT training followed by extended consultation with certified PCIT trainers and direct review of recorded sessions. Supervision occurs live, during the session, not retrospectively.
Our clinical leadership includes a licensed marriage and family therapist with a doctorate and a licensed clinical psychologist, both approved supervisors under their respective boards. As a training clinic, we build regional capacity in an evidence-based model that remains scarce in the Central Valley while delivering care under close clinical oversight.
Working with us
We accept referrals from pediatric practices, schools, child welfare, and community agencies serving San Joaquin County families. We welcome conversations with funders, county partners, and agencies interested in expanding access to PCIT locally.
